Hello!
My name is Mayleea Hansen, but you can call me May!
Art has been a part of my life since I was a child, and I have continued to fuel that passion through design. I love creating simple, clean, and elegant designs for the audience to interact with. When I'm not in front of a computer, I'm probably hanging out with my friends, going to flee markets, or trying new foods.

Design Philosophy
Simplicity in design essentially describes the purpose of an object or product that meets the need of a user. Good design that is simple and functional helps the audience connect with the design. The relationship between good design and the viewer is a simple yet complex experience. I create simple designs that people can access, respond, and relate to.
My work has been influenced by designers like El Lissitzky and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy from the constructivist movement. Their strong colors and shapes create an interesting confidence that I resonate with. Typefaces like Futura and Kabel by Paul Renner and Rudolf Koch also elevate my work with bold geometric fonts. My Asian heritage has influenced the way I design. It has influenced my work through color, type, line, and pattern. I create designs that have intriguing visual elements from around the world.
In my creative process, simplicity is essential to attracting everyone to interact with my design. I research and gather examples I see to stimulate ideas. Then I let these ideas begin to take shape and form a composition. I take into consideration the positive and negative spaces to enhance my simple and elegant design. My work does not overwhelm the audience but is easy to relate to. I utilize shapes, colors, and typography to piece together designs. I use colors to show the function of the product. My work has roots, and I incorporate global design elements that are accessible to all.
The goal for my design work is to create meaningful experiences for my audience. I create designs that engage the viewer to participate and interact with it. I want to continue expanding my designs for internationalization—simple yet complex for all to relate and respond to.
